Where it suits in a North East home
This one is deeper rather than longer, so it suits a square patio or a lawn corner more than a narrow yard. The extra panel power helps it reach the 800W limit for more of a grey North East day.
Good if you want the most from cloudier days and have a squarer space.
Any wall, flat-roof or raised spot needs a professional assessment first, and never a wall shared with a neighbour.
Ballast: the maker says hybrid ballast must suit your spot and the wind there. Ask us and we'll get the maker's figure for your kit before you set it up.
Check before you order
Can't tick one? An electrician can check your socket and fuse box. Our own site checks and fitting are coming soon.
- A clear, sunny spot of about 2.5m × 2.2m, away from the gate, bins and paths.
- A weatherproof outdoor socket within the kit's 4m cable. No extension leads or adaptors.
- Modern RCD protection in your fuse box. Not sure? Ask an electrician to check.
- Written permission first if you rent, are leasehold, or your street is in a conservation area and you want it on a wall.
- Tell your home insurer before you set it up.
- Register it free at myplugin.solar before first use. Northern Powergrid runs the network here.
- One kit per home, and never with a home battery.
Delivery, or help setting up

Questions about this kit
Which way should it face?
South is best, and south-east or south-west work well too. Put it in the sunniest part of your garden or yard and it'll be making power from morning to evening on long summer days.
How much will it send into my home?
Up to 800W at any moment (799VA), and only while the sun's on it. Your home uses that power first, before anything comes from the grid.
Why check my electrics?
This kit has more than 960W of panels. The government's product specification says to consider a professional check of your electrical installation above that, so it's worth having one.
Do I have to tell Northern Powergrid?
You register the kit free at myplugin.solar before you first use it. That tells the network operator, which for Newcastle and the North East is Northern Powergrid.
Can you set it up for me?
Not yet. Fitting is coming soon around Newcastle. Sign up and we'll tell you when it's live. Until then, kits are designed for you to set up yourself.
